The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
