The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The last season concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.

New Challenges for The Team

The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.

The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no plans for further series.

Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
