Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to the top, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
