Notably, any advancement achieved within this demo is eligible to be carried over directly into the main game upon its February release.

More Than a Straightforward Remake: A Complete Reimagining

This project represents a comprehensive reimagining of the landmark year 2000 RPG, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a notable departure from other series re-releases, such as the previously launched HD-2D iterations, this remake embraces a striking three-dimensional art style. Locales have been crafted to look like intricate dioramas, with characters having a whimsical stylized look.

"Even with the 3DS version, the story was still quite lengthy. Therefore, we reached a determination that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] make this experience for contemporary audiences."

Significant Gameplay Improvements and Modernizations

The creators has introduced several enhancements to refresh the original experience. These include:

  • Streamlined Field Battles: Inspired by contemporary role-playing games, low-level foes can now be dispatched instantly on the exploration screen eliminating the need for initiating a full traditional battle sequence.
  • Adjustable Battle Pace: Players have the option to speed up battle sequences to quickly get past less challenging encounters.
  • New Vocation Mechanics: One completely new character role has been created for this reimagining. Additionally, party members gain the capacity to take on a second vocation, greatly enhancing strategic options.

These refinements seek to tackle a key the original game's frequent points of feedback: its daunting length. The initial adventure could easily require over 100 hours to complete. The reimagined edition has been specifically reworked to refine pacing and reduce any repetition.
