Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
