Defiant Wilfried Nancy insists he is not worried about being fired yet supporters unleash fury after derby defeat.
The under-pressure manager stated he had no concerns about losing his job, claiming, “We are very near to changing our fortunes,” despite sliding worryingly close to the chopping block with a convincing defeat by the Ibrox side.
Another Collapse Results in Derby Defeat
The home side were in front their oldest rivals at half-time but a second-half capitulation allowed Danny Röhl’s team to move level on points with the current Scottish Premiership champions. The French coach, who was hired in December, has now overseen six setbacks in eight fixtures.
“The board and I are united at the club,” said Nancy.
Pressed on the speculation, the 48-year-old said: “It’s not on my mind. My focus is on finding ways to get the team to excel on the fine details.
Fan Fury Outside Parkhead
The fans displayed their anger – aimed at the dugout and directors – in their hundreds at full time. The hierarchy are reportedly likely to return to the former boss, who enjoyed a successful temporary stint last year, should a change be made.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. So this is the situation for the moment. But when I say that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am a defeatist guy. No. What I mean the turnaround is near, imminently close to reverse our form.”
Focus on the Details
He highlights the fact the side show good levels for 45 minutes at a time. In fact, if not for missed chances they would have been more than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit aside from the fact that we didn't take a second goal,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.
“The level we had at certain moments was exceptionally high. That is a fact. I could not speak so positively if it was different. But that’s why, in terms of results, I said it's a repeating pattern. For that reason I feel a change is coming to a shift in fortunes. But for the moment: the fine margins.”
“We produced many, many good things that we did, like today again. However it’s about consistency. My narrative would change the same. That’s why I firmly believe we will manage to fix this.”
Röhl’s Cautious Response
The victorious boss refused to contemplate a championship push even after what seemed like a landmark win. “Step by step, so we can develop a challenge,” he said. “The confidence in the group is outstanding.”
