Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
- Each team includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
