Actor Refutes Anti-Vaxxer Views After Narrating Controversial Coronavirus Documentary
The acclaimed actor has provided his voice to a new documentary that questions the safety of vaccinations and praises one-time health official the political figure.
The Feature's Provocative Foundation
Named "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is adapted from a popular book published by a disgraced researcher, who gained notoriety during the global outbreak for assertions that Covid was a result of a bad strain of the seasonal immunization.
The publication's co-author, the executive producer, has previously authored books with controversial radio host a known commentator. The producer wrote online praising Neeson's participation in the project.
A Strong Denial
A spokesperson for Neeson have released a statement strongly denying implications that he holds anti-vax views.
"We all acknowledge that unethical practices might be present within the medical sector, but that must not be confused with opposition to vaccines," the comment explains. "Neeson never has been, and cannot be described as, anti-vaccination. His extensive work with the UN children's agency reinforces his consistent support for public-health initiatives."
The statement noted that the performer did not shape the project's editorial content and that questions about its assertions are best addressed to the creators.
Central Themes In the Documentary
In the film, the voiceover spoken by Neeson includes several controversial claims:
- It claims that pro-vaccine voices have demanded "unconditional submission" to public institutions.
- It posits that "research has become deeply politicized."
- RFK Jr is shown claiming, "The core flaw with vaccines is that they simply are not properly vetted."
- It also criticizes pandemic restrictions, claiming they caused psychological harm that cost thousands of lives.
- Concerning Covid vaccines, it mentions a report that they were "hurriedly approved" and seen as "risky trials."
Previous Context and Current Issues
It also references a historical film about AIDS medication trials on children, which was later the focus of a BBC apology by the network for editorial breaches.
In recent weeks, Kennedy directed the national health agency to alter its long-held position that there is no link between immunizations and autism. This assertion is repeated in the film, contrary to a fresh analysis from the global health body reiterating no connection has been found.
A Previous Record of Support
Standing in contrast to the film's tone, Neeson has in the past expressed clear advocacy for vaccines in his role as a Unicef global ambassador.
In 2022, he called vaccines as "an extraordinary achievement," adding that "The debate about vaccines in lately has lost sight of how much positive impact they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in history."
"Plague of Corruption" ends with Neeson's voice saying, "This is not the end of our journey. Rather, it is the beginning of a new chapter."
